Zelda M. Barnes, 94, of Carlisle, died Monday, December 20, 2010 at Lewistown Hospital. She was born on Sunday, May 21, 1916, in Carlisle, a daughter of the late William H. Deitch and Helen (Watson) Deitch and the widow of Aaron V. Barnes, who died Oct. 22, 1980.
Zelda was a 1934 graduate of Carlisle High School and a graduate of the former Carlisle Commercial College. She retired after eleven years of service with the Cumberland County Office of Aging and had also worked eleven years at The Bon-Ton store in Carlisle. Zelda was a longtime member of First United Church of Christ, Carlisle and a member of the Second Tuesday Group at the church.
She is survived by her loving son, W. Randolph Barnes (and his wife, Deborah) of Milroy, two step-grandchildren; Christian C. Kauffman (and his wife, Colleen) and Misty E. Kauffman (and her husband, Adam Rung) both of Philadelphia.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, December 23, 2010 at the First United Church of Christ, 30 N. Pitt St., Carlisle, with Rev. Lynn R. Schultz officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Zion Cemetery, Monroe Twp. Viewing will be held on Thursday from 10 a.m. until time of the services. Ewing Brothers Funeral Home, Carlisle, is in charge of the arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to First United Church of Christ.
