He served in WWII as an officer with the U.S. Coast Guard in the North Atlantic. Dr. Walp graduated from Temple University Medical School in 1948 and practiced as a podiatric physician for 47 years, first in Washington, D. C., and then in Tucson, Arizona and Camp Hill, PA. He was a member of the National Association of Podiatric Physicians and was twice elected as president of the D. C. Podiatry Examiners for nine years. While living in Tucson for 13 years, Dr. Walp established two podiatry clinics with the Model Cities Program and St. Elizabeth of Hungry. He was a member of the Arizona State Podiatry Society. After moving to Carlisle, Dr. Walp became an associate of Dr. Howard Zlotoff in Camp Hill, Pennsylvania. He was a member of the Pennsylvania Association of Podiatric Physicians. Dr. Walp served on the Vestry and participated as a lay reader at Truro Episcopal Church in Fairfax, Virginia. He also was a member of the Kiwanis and Civitan Clubs, and worked with Special Olympics and the mentally challenged. He was active in the Adult Literacy Tutoring Program and volunteered at the Carlisle Bosler Libraby.

Dr. Walp wished to participate in the Humanity Gifts Registry of Philadelphia. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, October 11, 2012, at 2 p.m. in the Henry Chapelat Chapel Pointe, 770 S. Hanover St., Carlisle, with Rev. Walt Frankenberry officiating. A reception will follow the service. Memorial contributions may be made to Chapel Pointe's Benevolent Fund or to Hospice of Central Pennsylvania, 1320 Linglestown Rd., Harrisburg, PA 17110. Ewing Brothers Funeral Home, Carlisle, is in charge of arrangements.
