Obituary

William (Bill) Edward Mack, 67, of Carlisle, passed away on Friday, July 19, 2024, at UPMC Carlisle.  He was born on March 19, 1957, in Enola and was the son of the late William H. Mack and Audrey Mack.

Bill graduated from East Pennsboro High School with the Class of 1975.  He joined the Air Force after high school, and served in England, working in telecommunications, before returning to attend Penn State University for his bachelor's degree, and Loyola University for his master's degree.  Having a passion for engineering, he then worked as an engineer for Westinghouse, where he worked on complex electrical systems.  Later, Bill became a professor at Harrisburg Area Community College, where he worked for over 20 years, as a professor in their Electrical Engineering program.  His career then took him to Williamsport where he served as Assistant Dean and then became Dean of the School of Engineering at Pennsylvania College of Technology. Bill ended his career by serving as Assistant to the Provost.  Throughout his professional career, Bill also served for 20 years as a member of the US National Guard, where he served in Field Artillery, ultimately retiring with the rank of Sergeant.

Upon returning to Carlisle PA, he spent his days in retirement working in his woodshop building furniture for his friends and family.  He loved spending time outdoors and riding his motorcycle.  One of his favorite places to ride was Gettysburg and touring the battlefield.  He and his wife, Dana, enjoyed traveling and one of his favorite places he visited was Moab, Utah.  When he wasn't in the shop or traveling, his favorite hobby was spending time with his six grandchildren.  Whether going fishing, playing tennis, working on projects with them, or playing games, his absolute favorite thing was to build memories with them.

He is survived by his devoted wife of 47 years Dana Saxton Mack, his two brothers, Michael Mack, Edward Mack and his son Eddie; Bill's two sons, Kevin and his wife Christi Mack and their two children Skylar and Conner; and Patrick and his wife Kelsie Mack, and their four children Parker, Isabella, Annalise, and Wyatt.

A funeral service will begin at 3:00 pm. on Thursday August 1, 2024, at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery.  There will be a Celebration of Life to be held at the Enola Sportsman's Club, 290 Pine Hill Road Extended, Enola, PA 17025 from 4:30 to 8:30 PM. As per his wishes the service and Celebration of Life has a dress code of casual.

In lieu of flowers, which are restricted by Fort Indiantown Gap, the family is asking for donations to be made to the Gettysburg Foundation in his name.  https://www.gettysburgfoundation.org/
