William B. Hershey, Sr., 85, of Carlisle, passed away on Thursday, July 23, 2026, at UPMC Carlisle. He was born on April 21, 1941, in Carlisle and was a son of the late Merle W. Hershey and Armenta Josephine (Holtry) Hershey.
Bill worked in the construction industry most of his life and retired in 2003 as a finish-carpenter with McCoy Brothers, Inc. with more than 20 years of service. Bill was a life member of the Carlisle Eagles Aerie 1299 and spent many hours volunteering at the club and their picnic grounds. Bill was a member of Carlisle Fire & Rescue (formerly Cumberland-Goodwill) firehouse since 1958, member of Carlisle Club and V.F.W. Post 477, all of Carlisle.
Bill enjoyed watching NASCAR and Penn State football games. He also enjoyed hunting, playing cards with friends, league bowling for many years, throwing horseshoes and collecting Elvis Presley memorabilia.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years Judith Ann (Snyder) Hershey, son William B. (Edward Miller) Hershey, Jr. of Phoenix, AZ, daughter Wendy Ciuffo of Carlisle and son Jason M. (Christy) Hershey of Carlisle, two brothers, Gerald (Phyllis) Hershey and Edward Hershey, two sisters, Peggy Clouser and Geraldine (Robert) Shipp, seven grandchildren, Jennifer Wesley, John Hershey, Spencer (fiancé Gemma Stoy) Ciuffo, Ivey Hershey, Alex Saffell, Juliana Hershey and Jayden Walker, seven great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by siblings, Doris Markelwitz, A. Ruth Gottshall, Mildred Hockenberry, Richard Hershey, Betty Hershey, Linda Hockenberry and Thomas Hershey.
A viewing will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, July 31, 2026, followed by the funeral service at 11:00 a.m. in the Ewing Brothers Funeral Home, 630 S. Hanover St., Carlisle with Pastor Irvin Tingle officiating. The burial will be in Westminster Memorial Gardens, Carlisle. Visit EwingBrothers.com for condolences.
