Obituary

William W. Hartzell, 84, of Carlisle, passed away on Saturday, November 26, 2016 at his home. He was born on June 22, 1932 in Carlisle, and was a son of the late George W. and Lillian (Worley) Hartzell and was married to the late Flora (Brown) Hartzell, who died in 1988.

Bill was a 1951 graduate of Carlisle High School. He retired from the former Carlisle Tire & Rubber Co. after more than 30 years of service. He was a longtime mechanic and also farmed. Bill formerly worked for the family business "Hartzell's City Service" in Carlisle and at the former Flemming's Truck Stop. He was a member of the Plainfield First Church of God, the Carlisle Elks Lodge, Carlisle Eagles Aerie 1299 and the Williams Grove Historical Steam Engine Association. Bill and his late wife, Flora, enjoyed horseback riding, and were members of the Bonny Brook Riding Club in Boiling Springs, and also rode with the Cumberland County Sheriff's Posse.

He is survived by two sons; Perry (wife, Lisa) Hartzell and Sidney (wife, Twila) Hartzell, both of Carlisle, one sister, Eleanor Thrush of Carlisle, two grandchildren; Chasity and William Hartzell and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by one sister, Margaret Cosgrove and one brother, Paul Hartzell.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, December 17, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. in the Plainfield First Church of God, 2089 Newville Rd., Plainfield, with Rev. Kevin Dunlap officiating. Burial will be private. Visitation and fellowship will follow the service at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to his church.
