IN LOVING MEMORY OF
William "Bo"
Charles Washington, Sr.
November 4, 1949 – March 20, 2019
William Charles "Bo" Washington, Sr. was born to the late Delores Forbes (Washington) on November 4, 1949 in Carlisle. God and His infinite wisdom sent one of his angels to quietly claim his own on the morning of Wednesday, March 20, 2019. A soft voice whispered saying, "Come home my child."
Bo was educated in the Carlisle Area School District and received his Diploma in 1967. While in High School he participated in multiple activities, including Football, Basketball, Baseball, and Track and Field. In 1972 he entered the United States Army and attended basic training at Fort. Gordon in Augusta, Georgia. While in the military, he was introduced to the martial arts. This introduction led to a lifetime commitment to Isshinryu Karate. After his Honorable Discharge from the military, he returned home to Carlisle, Pennsylvania. Bo worked at the Carlisle Frog and Switch Company before working until his retirement at United States Army War College at the Carlisle Barracks.
He was preceded in death by his Mother, Delores Forbes, his elder brother, Charles, and his eldest son, William C. "Chuck" Washington, Jr. He leaves behind three sons, Desmond Washington of Harrisburg, Terrance Washington of New York and Terdell Washington of Carlisle along with two daughters; LaDawn Banks of Harrisburg and Alyssa Washington of Lancaster. He also leaves behind 17 grandchildren, countless nieces, nephews, and cousins; along with friends.
Bo was a fixture of the Carlisle area community. He was a member and past Commander of the Haines-Stackfield American Legion Post # 826. He ran a successful karate school for almost 30 years. The Black Dragons Isshinryu Karate School, founded in 1976, was a staple to a generation of young men and women in the Carlisle area. Bo was often seen wearing something to represent his favorite NFL team, the Washington Redskins. Whether it was work, play or a formal occasion, he would often be recognized wearing a Redskins hat.
