Virginia H. Suter, 80, of Carlisle, passed away peacefully at home on Friday, June 26, 2026, after a courageous journey with ALS.

Born on November 13, 1945, in Salem, New Jersey, she was the daughter of the late William and Alice (Ayars) Haskett. Virginia graduated from Salem High School in 1963 and earned her bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from Elizabethtown College in just three years, reflecting the determination and work ethic that defined her life. A farmer’s daughter at heart, she possessed an unwavering resolve, tireless work ethic, and deep commitment to serving others.

Together with her husband, Richard, Virginia owned and operated the Dairy Queen in Carlisle for 26 years, building not only a successful business but lasting friendships throughout the community. She was a longtime member of The Meeting House in Carlisle, where her faith in Jesus Christ guided her life.

Virginia had a remarkable gift for caring for others. Whether helping a student turn an essay draft into an “A” paper, preparing a feast for family and friends, or quietly serving those around her, no detail was ever too small. Even as ALS gradually limited her own abilities, she continued to put the needs of others before her own.

She treasured every conversation with her children, adored her seven grandchildren, and delighted in their accomplishments and everyday joys. She also loved the family cottage on Charleston Lake, which she helped build with her parents, where she found peace listening to the loons.

Virginia is survived by her beloved husband of 60 years, Richard A. Suter; her sons, Eric Suter and his partner, Tina Gingerich, Craig Suter and his wife, Linda, Jason Suter and his wife, Lori, and Guy Suter and his wife, Robin; her sister, Frances Kandle, and her family; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Family and friends are invited to a visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 1, 2026, at The Meeting House, 1155 Walnut Bottom Road, Carlisle, PA 17015. A Celebration of Life service will follow at 11:00 a.m., officiated by Pastor Kenneth Hoke, with a time of fellowship afterward.

Burial will be private at Mt. Zion Cemetery, Churchtown.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the ALS Association.

Arrangements are entrusted to Ewing Brothers Funeral Home.
