Valda L. Peffer, 89, of Carlisle, passed away on Thursday, October 27, 2016 in Claremont Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, Carlisle. She was born on July 20, 1927 in Carlisle, and was a daughter of the late John R. and Romayne (Foster) Burgard and was the widow of Henry L. Peffer, who died March 17, 1994.

Valda attended Carlisle High School. She retired from the former Carlisle Hospital after 30 years of service. Valda loved children and all animals. She enjoyed cooking, baking, gardening and her bicycle. Valda's humor and zest for life will be deeply missed by her family.

She is survived by one daughter, Sandra L. Gorham and her wife, Carol Horn of Mechanicsburg and two nieces; Pamela J. Hunter and Kimberly Kelley. She was predeceased by two brothers; Richard and John Burgard.

A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 1, 2016 in the Westminster Cemetery, 1159 Newville Rd., Carlisle, with Rev. Daniel R. Mikesell officiating. Ewing Brothers Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association or to the Humane Society of Harrisburg Area.
