Tonia Marie Richardson, 46, of Carlisle, passed away on Wednesday, June 29, 2011, at the Milton S. Hershey Medical Center. She was born on Sunday, January 31, 1965, in Carlisle, a daughter of the late Wanda B. (Gobantes) Smitz and Curtis Smitz of Carlisle.

Tonia was a 1982 graduate of Carlisle High School and served in the Army from 1983 to 1985. She was employed the last four years with the Strategic Studies Institute at the U. S. Army War College and was formerly employed with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania for 16 years. Tonia was a member of Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church and the Haines-Stackfield American Legion Post 826, both of Carlisle.

She is survived by her father, Curtis (and his wife, Linda) Smitz of Carlisle, her husband of 26 years, Linwood Richardson, Jr., one son, Linwood Richardson, III of Carlisle, one daughter, Salvaila Winter Richardson at home, one brother, Matthew Smitz of Townsend, DE, one sister, Angela Smitz-Wood of Carlisle, her paternal grandmother, Mildred B. Jonesand host of nieces, nephews and friends. In addition to her mother, Tonia was preceded in death byabrother, Recardo Gobantes, her maternal grandmother, Lucinda (Greene) Gobantes,heraunt, Wilma Halland her uncle, Genaro Gobantes.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, July 6, 2011 at 1:30 p.m. in the Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church, Lincoln & West Streets, Carlisle. Rev. Fred Johnson will officiate. Viewing will be held on Wednesday from 12:00 noon until time of the services. A time of fellowship will immediately follow the services at the church. Burial with military honors will be at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville on Thursday, July 7, 2011 at 2:30 p.m.
