Thomas H. Shelar, 80, of Carlisle, died on Tuesday, November 5, 2019 at UPMC Pinnacle Carlisle.  He was born on December 7, 1938 in Princeton, PA and was the son of the late Thomas Earl Shelar and Margaret Alberta (Harrison) Shelar.

Tom graduated from Princeton High School and earned a degree in law enforcement for Harrisburg Area Community College.  He served in the US Navy from 1955 to 1959.  He served in the PA State Police from 1964 to 1978 and in the PA Office of the Attorney General from 1983 to 1996.  Tom enjoyed hunting and the outdoors.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Judy M. (Toth) Shelar, one son, Thomas Wayne (wife, Georgia) Shelar, one daughter, Lori Lynn (husband, Rian) Smith, one sister, Amy Lou Thompson, 5 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.  Tom was preceded in death by one brother, Frederick Benjamin Shelar.

A memorial service will begin at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, November 9, 2019 in the Ewing Brothers Funeral Home, 630 S. Hanover St., Carlisle with Rev.
