Obituary

Thelma M. Shughart, 90, of Carlisle, passed away on Friday, April 15, 2011, at Carlisle Regional Medical Center. She was born on Saturday, February 26, 1921, in Carlisle, a daughter of the late Joseph and Zula (Clelan) Keck and the widow of Maynard W. Shughart, who died Feb. 13, 1999.

Thelma retired after many years of service with the former McCoy Electronic, Inc. in Mt. Holly Springs. She was a member of Good Shepherd Community United Methodist Church, Carlisle, where she was formerly active with the United Methodist Women's group, the Women and Mens Bible Classand was a former young children's Sunday school teacher. Thelma volunteered for many years at the Thornwald Home in Carlisle, where she would often visit the residents with her pomeranian, Buddy. She was also a hostess for promotional products at the Giant grocery store in Carlisle. Thelma enjoyed collecting historical memorabilia of Carlisle, Mt. Holly Springs and the surrounding communities.

She is survived by her two loving daughters; Vonny L. (and her husband, Jack) Bailey and Beverly S. (and her husband, John) Lehman both of Carlisle, a sister, Gayle Sheriff of Carlisle, four grandchildren; Dallas (and his wife, Georgann)Bailey, Wanda (and her companion, Geoff)Stryker, Keith (andhis wife, Becky)Lehman and Leanne(and her husband, David)Swab, three great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by brothers; Earl Keck, Sr. and Lester Keck, Sr.

Funeral services to celebrate Thelma's life will be held at 11:00 a.m on Wednesday, April 20, 2011, in the Good Shepherd Community United Methodist Church, 2135 Ritner Highway, Carlisle, with Pastor Scott A. Hocker officiating. Burial will be in Cumberland Valley Memorial Gardens, Carlisle. Viewing will be held at the church on Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until time of the services. Ewing Brothers Funeral Home, Carlisle, is in charge of the arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to her church.
