Sophie was a 1942 graduate of John Harris High School, Harrisburg, where she excelled in playing the violin for the high school's orchestra. She retired from her employment at the former Merchants & Business Men's Mutual Insurance Company, Harrisburg to join her husband in the ownership and operation of the family business "The Femina" restaurant in Carlisle, a Dickinson Law School landmark.
Sophie is lovingly remembered by her son, Dean G. Alexis and his wife, Cynthia of Santa Fe, NM; daughter, Joanne Alexis of Carlisle, granddaughters; Emily, Elena and Ryah Alexis and many adoring nephews and nieces across the nation, including newly-born Sophia Siobhan Conroy of Philadelphia who was named after her beloved "Thia" Sophie.
All who knew Sophie Alexis will miss her gentle nature, kindness, wonderful sense of humor and wisdom.
Sophie was a devoted, founding member of the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral, where she was active with the Philoptochos Society, Saints Joachim and Anna Society and the Daughters of Penelope. Additionally, she was an associate of the Carlisle Civic Club and a member of the Carlisle Garden Club since 1956.
Viewing and Trisagion will take place on Friday, March 16, 2012, at 10 a.m. followed by the funeral service at 11 a.m. at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 1000 Yverdon Dr., Camp Hill. Burial will be held at Westminster Memorial Gardens, Carlisle. Ewing Brothers Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Holy Trinity Cathedral.
