Obituary

Sondra Ann Rhoads, 85, of Carlisle, passed away on Saturday, October 28, 2023, at her daughter Kendra's home.  She was born on August 5, 1938, in Carlisle and was a daughter of the late Noel and Evelyn (Nickey) Smith.

Sondra attended Carlisle High School and graduated from the Joan Lee School of Cosmetology in Carlisle.  She and her husband operated the "Sondra and Kenneth Rhoads Salon" on Pomfret Street in Carlisle for 60 years.  Sondra was a life member of St. John's Episcopal Church, Carlisle and a former member of the Order of the Eastern Star.

She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Kenneth D. Rhoads, two daughters, Kendra (husband Jeff) Carson of Carlisle and Keirsten Kassel of Carlisle, three brothers, Steve Smith, Tom Smith, Buck Smith, all of Carlisle, five sisters, Barbara Smith of Carlisle, Cynthia "Daisy" Koblish of Carlisle, Carrie Wedo of Chadds Ford, PA, Susan Adams of Wilmington, DE and Becky Myers of Carlisle, two beloved granddaughters, Madeline McCoy and Caroline Carson and many nieces and nephews.  Sondra was preceded in death by one brother Noel Smith, Jr. and three sisters, Patricia Denny, Linda Garber and Cathy McAdoo.

Above all else, Sondra cherished spending time with her family. She would often share fond memories of her siblings, her grandparents and her aunt Ruth. She enjoyed hosting countless holiday family gatherings at her home.

Sondra was very involved in her daughters' and granddaughters' lives and took great pleasure in attending all their important life events. She was their biggest cheerleader.

A Requiem Eucharist will be celebrated on Saturday, November 4, 2023, at 11:30 a.m. in the St. John's Episcopal Church, 1A North Hanover St, Carlisle with Rev. Adam Kradel officiating.  A visitation will be on Saturday from 10:30 a.m. until time of service in the Church Parish Hall.

The burial will be in Ashland Cemetery, Carlisle.  Following the burial, a time of fellowship will be held at the Church Parish Hall.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the St. John's Episcopal Church, to St. Jude Children's Hospital or to Wounded Warrior Project.
