Obituary

Shirley A. Knisely, 92, of Carlisle, passed away on Saturday, January 10, 2026, at Chapel Pointe in Carlisle.  She was born on April 30, 1933, in Coffeetown, York County and was the daughter of the late Russell and Miriam (Elecker) McClure.  Shirley was married over 68 years to her high school sweetheart, G. Edward "Ed" Knisely, who passed away September 7, 2019.

Shirley graduated from Dillsburg High School in 1951 and attended Harrisburg School of Nursing for two years.  She was the friendly, welcoming face at the dental office of Dr. John R. Beck on South Hanover Street, Carlisle serving as both the receptionist and dental assistant for more than 40 years.  She was a member of the PA Dental Assistant Association.  She was a member of Otterbein United Methodist Church and a former member of First Evangelical Lutheran Church, both in Carlisle, where she participated in numerous church groups over the years.

Shirley was a partner in Knisely's Pet & Farm Center, along with her husband and son, over the past 65 years.

She is survived by one daughter Denise M. Barker of Carlisle, one son Jere A. (Joyce) Knisely of Manheim, six grandchildren, Alyssa (Ryan) Holstay, Ashley (Mike) Satkovich, Matthew (Krista) Barker, Christopher (Betsy) Barker, Gregory Knisely and Katie Knisely, along with seven great-grandchildren.  She was proceded in death by her brother Kenneth McClure of York, Pa., son Stephen E. Knisely and his wife Jacalyn, and son-in-law W. Hall Barker.

The family would like to personally thank the staff at Chapel Pointe for taking wonderful care of her over the past 4 years.  A Celebration of Life will be held at a future date at the discretion of the family.  www.EwingBrothers.com.
