Obituary

Sergeant Major (Ret) Alvert Coryell Singer, Sr., US Army, 84, of Carlisle, passed away on Sunday, June 10, 2018 at his home. He was born on July 22, 1933 in Liverpool, Perry County and was a son of the late Leslie Morris Singer and Emila Frances (Coryell) Singer. Alvert was married to the late Mardella (Jumper) Singer, who passed away on May 5, 1997

Alvert graduated in 1951 from Greenwood Joint High School in Millerstown. He was a US Army veteran of the Korean and Vietnam Wars. He retired after 27 years of service and earned numerous medals and honors. Following his military service, he worked as a Prudential Insurance Agent and retired after 17 years of service. Alvert was a 40-year member of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Carlisle, where he was a Eucharist Minister and a member of the choir. Alvert was a caring individual, and, he donated to more than 200 organizations over the years.

He is survived by one son, Alvert C. Singer, Jr. of Carlisle, one daughter-in-law and caregiver, Kelly M. Singer with whom he lived, two brothers; Leslie M. Singer of Germany and Donald L. Singer of Carlisle, one sister, Peggy L. (husband, Alvin) Hollinger of Camp Hill, four grandchildren; Curtis and Zachary Singer, William Rose and Amanda Rose, three great-grandchildren; Callie-Rae, Haley and Jason Rose and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one sister, Mary Frances Singer and three brothers; Nelson E., Richard H. and Wayne G. Singer.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, June 15, 2018 in the St. Patrick Catholic Church, 85 Marsh Dr., Carlisle with The Very Rev. William C. Forrey officiating. A time of fellowship will immediately follow the service at the church. Burial with military honors by Cumberland County Honor Guard will be in Rolling Green Cemetery, Camp Hill at 2:30 p.m. on Friday. A viewing will be held on Thursday from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with a Prayer Service at 7:30 p.m. in the Ewing Brothers Funeral Home, 630 S. Hanover St., Carlisle. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to his church, 152 E. Pomfret St., Carlisle, PA 17013. www.Since1853.com.
