Obituary

SFC (Ret) Bruce M. Horowitz, US Army, 61, of Newville, passed away on Monday, November 17, 2014, at the M. S. Hershey Medical Center. He was born on June 23, 1953, in Brooklyn, New York, a son of the late Sam and Ruth (Schrenzel) Horowitz.

Bruce graduated from Van Nuys High School in Los Angeles, CA, earned his Bachelor's degree from the University of Maryland and his Master's degree from Golden State University. Bruce served in the US Army for 20 years and retired in 1992 as a Sergeant First Class. He earned many honors for his service including; the National Defense Service Medal with Bronze Star, Army Good Conduct Medal (Sixth Award), Army Commendation Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Army Achievement Medal, N.C.O. Professional Development Ribbon and the Overseas Service Ribbon. After retiring from the Army, Bruce became an Information Technology manager with Ross Distribution, Carlisle, a position he held until this past September when he could no longer work due to his illness. He was a member and Deacon for many years with Carlisle Baptist Church. Bruce was a life member of Carlisle V.F.W. Post 477 and member of the National Honor Society. Bruce will be deeply missed by his family and friends.

He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 41 years, Chong (Yi) Horowitz, one son, Adam M. (wife, Sonia) Horowitz of Newville, one daughter, Michelle L. Baia of Daytona Beach, FL, two brothers; Larry Horowitz of Ormond Beach, FL and Ira Horowitz of Los Angeles, three grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, November 21, 2014, at 10:30 a.m. in the Ewing Brothers Funeral Home, 630 S. Hanover St., Carlisle. Pastor Ed Roman will officiate. Burial with military honors by Cumberland County Honor Guard will be in Cumberland Valley Memorial Gardens, Carlisle. A viewing will be held on Thursday evening from 6 - 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the National Pancreatic Cancer Foundation, P. O. Box 1848, Longmont, CO 80502.
