Obituary

Sara L. (Chestnut) Jackson 85, of Newville, passed away on Thursday, August 9, 2018 in the Community General Osteopathic Hospital in Harrisburg. She was born on August 13, 1932 in Newville and was a daughter of the late James E. and Elizabeth (Gayman) Chestnut and was the widow of Richard L. Jackson who passed away on April 12, 2016.

Sara graduated in 1951 from Newville High School. She worked many years for the former Piezo Crystal Co., Reeves-Hoffman Co. and the Murata-Erie Co. She also did home day care for many years. Sara was a charter member of the Carlisle Evangelical Free Church.

She is survived by two sons; Gary L. (wife, Judy) Jackson of Lebanon and Douglas L. (wife, Linda) Jackson of Hummelstown, five grandchildren; Jeremy (wife, Dawn) Jackson, Zachary (wife, Alexis) Jackson, Elizabeth Joanne Jackson, Sara Rae Jackson and Jennifer Lee Jackson, four great-grandchildren; Benjamin, Nathan, Mila and Addie Jackson, one brother-in-law, Donald E. Jackson of Newville and many nieces and nephews. Sara was preceded in death by three brothers; Clarence Chestnut, Sr., Carl Chestnut and Walter Chestnut and two sisters; Edna Gutshall and Martha Deihl.

A viewing will begin at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, August 15, 2018 followed by funeral services at 12:00 p.m. at the Carlisle Evangelical Free Church, 290 Petersburg Rd., Carlisle, with Pastor Shad Baker and Pastor Trevor Steele officiating. Burial will be private at Prospect Hill Cemetery, Newville. Ewing Brothers Funeral Home, Carlisle is in charge of the arrangements. Memorial gifts in Sara's name may be made to the "Missions" care of the church.
