IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Sallie Patricia
Hardin
December 20, 1946 – August 30, 2022
Sallie Patricia Hardin, 75, of Carlisle, passed away on Tuesday, August 30, 2022, at Carlisle Hospital. She was born on December 20, 1946, in Huntington, West Virginia and was a daughter of the late William T. and Patricia (Gannon) Jones.
Because her father was in the military, Sallie lived many places throughout her childhood, including Germany, Georgia, Texas, Washington, Oklahoma and Maryland. Sadly, she lost her own mother when she was fourteen, but had wonderful memories of her parents together, and gained an additional beloved sister when her father remarried.
Sallie graduated in 1964 from Laraine High School in Suitland, MD and attended Marshall University as an art major in Huntington, WV. She moved to Baltimore with her then husband, Robert Hardin Sr., and had seven wonderful children. She volunteered as the director of the child care center at Good Shepherd Presbyterian Church in Joppatowne, MD, and after her youngest was in school, worked for many years with the Mercedes Samborsky Law Firm, also in Joppatowne. Later in life, she tired of the hustle and bustle of the Baltimore area and relocated to Carlisle. She enjoyed the charm and peacefulness of this town and began work at Tex Visions, first as a seamstress and most recently in the packing-production department, where she made many friends. Sallie had a knack for making friends (or chums as she sometimes called them) wherever she went!
She is survived by her children, Teresa Hardin of Baltimore, MD, Robert Hardin, Jr. of Huntington, WV, Kimberly (Scott) Hardin of Pittsburgh, John Hardin of Carlisle, David (Lindsay McCann) Hardin of Swedesboro, NJ, Deborah Hardin of Pittsburgh, Michael Hardin of Carlisle, two sisters, Linda Ramler of Mechanicsburg and Terresa Pace of Christiansburg, VA, one granddaughter, Jesselynn of Pittsburgh, two grandsons, Jamie of Pittsburgh and Benjamin of Swedesboro, 14 nieces and nephews, her mother's remaining sibling, Evelyn Gannon, and many sister and brother in-laws. She was preceded in death by her brother, William T. Jones Jr. of Colorado Springs, CO, and step-mother, Louise (Thompson) Jones.
Sallie, or Sallie Pat, or Lala, as she was known to many, had a way of bringing a quiet calm and wisdom to any situation, and it seemed like she always knew the right thing to say. As one of her children said - "everything was better when she was around." We can all be comforted by knowing that she is with us still, just in a different way.
She was also a hilarious storyteller and a very creative person. Her most recent project was making elaborate gnomes, often with details that matched the personality of the receiver. She was looking forward to doing more intricate crafts once she went through a surgery for essential tremor. We are so saddened that she is not able to enjoy that next phase, and yet we can all acknowledge her courage and love of life.
Sallie enjoyed spending time in nature and would often sit in her backyard with the bird feeders, local cats, and her beautiful flowers and fountain. It was an oasis to her, just as she was an oasis to so many in her life. She will be deeply, deeply missed.
A visitation will begin at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, September 9, 2022, followed by a Celebration of Life service at 4:00 p.m. in the Ewing Brothers Funeral Home, 630 S. Hanover St., Carlisle. www.EwingBrothers.com. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to: Global Citizen , an organization that she supported.
