Ruth A. Rice, 99, of Carlisle, passed away on Saturday, July 8, 2017 at Cumberland Crossings Retirement Community, Carlisle. She was born on March 15, 1918 in Pittsburgh, and was a daughter to the late Roy S. and Marie (Meyer) Rice.

Ruth graduated from Westinghouse High school and earned her Bachelor's and Master's degrees from the University of Pittsburgh. She became an elementary school teacher for the Pittsburgh public schools and retired with over 30 years of service.

She is survived by several nieces and nephews. Ruth was predeceased by one brother, Roy S. Rice Jr. and one sister, Helen M. Kerr.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 15, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. in Cumberland Crossings Retirement Community, 1 Longsdorf Way, Carlisle, with Chaplain Judy Strayer officiating. Burial will be private. Arrangements are being handled by Ewing Brothers Funeral Home, Carlisle. Memorial contributions may be made to the Cumberland Crossings Benevolent Care Fund.
