Roy Leon "Tiny" Miller, 89, of Carlisle, passed to eternal life on Tuesday, Oct. 1, 2013, at his home with loving family by his side. He was born Thursday, Jan. 10, 1924, in Carlisle, a son of the late Roy H. and Mary E. (Wise) Miller and was married to the late Gladys M. (Loudon) Miller for 64 years and who died April 10, 2011.
Roy was a 1943 graduate of Carlisle High School, where he studied auto mechanics and played football. He served as a Sergeant in the US Marine Corps during WWII and was an aircraft mechanic. Roy was a lifelong farmer and bought the homestead in North Middleton Twp. in 1954 from his father. He also worked as an automobile mechanic for the former Buckley Motors in Carlisle. Even though family and farming took up much of his time, Roy served as Chairman on the Zoning Hearing Board and was Judge of Elections in North Middleton Twp. for 46 years. Roy was a longtime member of First United Methodist Church (Carlisle U. M. Church) and American Legion Post 101, Carlisle. Roy enjoyed staying active with Carlisle High School Football and for many years he ran the football chains and down marker at the home games. Roy will be deeply missed by his family and friends.
He is survived by two sons; James L. (wife, Deb) Miller of Lititz and Martin H. Miller of Carlisle, two daughters; Ann M. Motter of Shippensburg and Cynthia "Cindy" J. (husband, Les) Welsh of Newville, three sisters; Anna Mae Raudabaugh of Carlisle, Jean Wickard of Newburg and Pauline Lohman of Metaire, LA, 14 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Roy was predeceased by brothers; Loren and Marlin Miller and one granddaughter, Tara Lynn.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 5, 2013, at 11 a.m. in the Ewing Brothers Funeral Home, 630 S. Hanover St., Carlisle, with Pastor Wayne A. Good officiating. A viewing will be held on Saturday from 9:30 a.m. until time of services at the funeral home. Burial with military honors by Cumberland County Honor Guard will be in Cumberland Valley Memorial Gardens, Carlisle. Flowers are welcome or memorial contributions may be made to Celtic Healthcare of Carlisle, Suite 100, 220 Wilson St., Carlisle, PA 17013.
