Rose M. Bitner, 93, of Carlisle, died Sunday, December 18, 2011, at Thornwald Home, Carlisle. She was born on Sunday, March 31, 1918, in Carlisle, a daughter of the late Benjamin H. Snyder and Annie E. (Gutshall) Snyder, and the widow of Lynn R. Bitner, who died Feb. 17, 2005.

Rose was a loving homemaker and a member of the Carlisle Brethren In Christ Church. She enjoyed crocheting and traveling.

She is survived by one son, Donald R. (and his wife, Jane) Bitner, of Carlisle, three brothers; Sylvester R. Snyder and Edward L. Snyder, both of Carlisle and Ray G. Snyder of Beesley's Point, NJ, three sisters; Betty R. Shuler, Annabelle M. Wetzel and Shirley A. Kauffman, all of Carlisle, two grandsons, four great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Rose was preceded in death by two brothers; Charles L. and Richard B. Snyder and five sisters; Grace V. Deitch, Marian J. Calaman, Doris J. Mixell, Vivian M. Tibbo and Mabel I. Blosser.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, December 22, 2011, in the Ewing Brothers Funeral Home, 630 S. Hanover St., Carlisle, with Rev. Kenneth O. Hoke officiating. Burial will be in Cumberland Valley Memorial Gardens, Carlisle. Viewing will be on Thursday from 12:30 p.m. until time of service.
