Ronald O. Ahlers, 82, of Carlisle, died on Tuesday, February 24, 2015, at Cumberland Crossing Retirement Community, Carlisle. He was born Dec. 27, 1932, in Carlisle, a son of the late George A. and Frances A. (Stover) Ahlers.

Ron was a 1950 graduate of Carlisle High School. He earned his Bachelor's (1955) and Master's (1957) degrees from Shippensburg University. He retired from Carlisle Area School District after more than 30 years of service. Ron taught seventh and eighth grade Social Studies and Geography. He was a member of First United Church of Christ in Carlisle, and was also a member of Cumberland Valley Trout Unlimited, Fly Fishers Club of Harrisburg and a life member of the Carlisle Elks Lodge. Ron was a former fly tying instructor at the Carlisle Fish & Game Assoc. for many years and also taught fly tying at Carlisle and Boiling Springs High Schools.

He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 59 years, Shirley (Weary) Ahlers, two daughters; Pamela R. (and her husband, Dwight) Bream of Boiling Springs and Deborah L. (and her husband, Rodney) Bond of Corinth, MS, seven grandchildren; Caren Bream, Megan Maxwell, Matthew Bream, Amy Bream, Melissa Bond, Andrea Bond and Rachel Bond.

A viewing will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 28, 2015, followed by services at 11:00 a.m. in the First United Church of Christ, 30 N. Pitt St., Carlisle, with Revs. Chris and Rachel Schwab officiating. Interment will be in the LeTort Cemetery, Middlesex Twp. Ewing Brothers Funeral Home, Carlisle, is in charge of the arrangements.
