Obituary

Robert Forrest Welker, 92, of Carlisle, passed away on Sunday, January 22, 2017 at Claremont Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, Carlisle. He was born on October 13, 1924 in Enola, and was a son of the late Richard L. and Catherine M. (Bretz) Welker. Robert was the last of 14 children.

Bob earned his G.E.D. following WWII. He served in the US Army and was a veteran of WWII, having served as a combat medic. Bob earned many honors and awards for his service to our country and was POW in Germany after being captured at the Battle of the Bulge. Bob was one who didn't go long without a job, and had worked as a plumber, a truck driver, mail truck driver, construction, warehouses and garage service stations. He was a life member of the Disabled Veterans in Camp Hill, Mechanicsburg V.F.W. and the Newville American Legion Post.

He is survived by his devoted wife of 54 years, Mary M. (Rhinehart) Welker, three sons; Robert (wife, Vicki) Welker of Enola, Chris (wife, Tosha) Welker of Carlisle and Walter (wife, Louann) Rhinehart of Louisa, KY, one daughter, Jennifer Welker of Harrisburg, many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two daughters; Nancy M. Welker and Kathlene K. Rhinehart.

A viewing will begin at 12:30 p.m. on Thursday, January 26, 2017 followed by funeral services at 1:30 p.m. in the Ewing Brothers Funeral Home, 630 S. Hanover St., Carlisle, with Rev. George Strayer officiating. Burial with military honors will be in Cumberland Valley Memorial Gardens, Carlisle.
