Robert E. "Sunshine" Sarber, 77, passed away on Tuesday, March 27, 2018 at home with family by his side. He was born on March 21, 1941 in Big Stone Gap, Virginia and was the son of the late Robert Lee Sarber and Maxie (Cain) Sarber.
Bob graduated in 1958 from the Union High School in Big Stone Gap. He retired 26 years of service with the former Fruehauf Co. in Middletown, where he was a supervisor of the shipping department. Bob also worked 12 years with the former AMP Inc., Carlisle. He was a member of the Good Shepherd Community United Methodist Church, Carlisle. Bob was a former Trustee of the church and was currently on the Pastor Parish Relations Board. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time with his family.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Doris A. (Peffer) Sarber, one son, Barry E. Sarber of Carlisle, one daughter, Sharon L. Robinson of Harrisburg, two brothers; Dennis Sarber of Hagerstown, MD and Terry Sarber of Lewes, DE, one sister, Carolyn Gibson of Frederick, MD, five grandchildren; Bradley (Sarah) Chestnut, Dereck Robinson, Ashley Kindig, Hillary Swartz and Stacey Sarber, five great-grandchildren; Logan Chestnut, Sadie Lehman, Carter Kindig, Gianna Kindig and Kamden Kindig and Jackson Armolt and many nieces and nephews. Bob was preceded in death by three sisters; Phyllis, Janice and Betty.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, April 3, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. in the Good Shepherd Community United Methodist Church, 2135 Ritner Highway, Carlisle, PA 17015 with Pastor Richard Noggle and Pastor Iva O'Brien officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Holly Springs Cemetery. A viewing will be held on Monday, April 2, 2018 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in the Ewing Brothers Funeral Home, 630 S. Hanover St., Carlisle and on Tuesday at the church from 10:00 a.m. until time of services. Memorial contributions may be made to his church. Since1853.com.
