Robert M. "Bob" Prescott, 84, of Carlisle, lost his battle of 34 years against rheumatoid arthritis, diabetes and cancer on Sunday, January 16, 2011 at Shippensburg Health Care Center. He was born Oct. 8, 1926, in Carlisle and was a son of the late James Prescott, Jr. and Mary C. (VanKirk) Prescott.
He graduated from Carlisle High School in 1944, attended Gettysburg College and graduated from Dickinson College in 1951 and was a S. A. E. Fraternity member. Bob was a veteran of WWII and proudly served in the US Navy from 1944 to 1947.
Bob lived most of his life in Carlisle, where he truly loved and devoted his life to community support. He was a faithful member of St. John's Episcopal Church, Carlisle, where he served on the vestry and the usher committee for many years. He retired in 1989 from the PA Dept. of Corrections, Camp Hill, where he was Director of Training. Bob was an avid golfer and loved spending winters in Florida.
He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 55 years, Doris (Alexander) Prescott, two daughters; Marianne (and her husband, Gary) Smith and Judy (and her husband, Christopher) Thorpe, both of Carlisle, a grandson, Nicholas Smith, step-granddaughters; Jennifer (and her husband, James) Manos and Joni Smith, a brother, James Prescott, III (and his wife, Wilma) of Carlisle, a brother-in-law, Ernest Zeger of Carlisle and several nieces and nephews. Bob was preceded in death by a sister, Mary A. Zeger, a brother-in-law, Charles (and his wife, Kathryn) Alexander.
The family is ever grateful for endless prayers and support, especially over the past 20 years of suffering and medical needs. We will deeply remember his courage and devotion as well as wonderful memories of laughter and love. He will be deeply missed.
A memorial service to celebrate Bob's life will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, January 22, 2011 at St. John's Episcopal Church, On the Square in Carlisle, with Rev. Mark A. Scheneman and Rev. Robyn J. Szoke officiating. Interment will follow in St. John's Chapel of the Good Shepherd Columbarium. A time of fellowship and refreshments will immediately follow the services in the church parish hall. Ewing Brothers Funeral Home, Carlisle, is in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions to St. John's Episcopal Church, P. O. Box 612, Carlisle, PA 17013.

Dear Prescott Family: We are sad of your loss. May the hands of God comfort you in this difficult time. May His face shine upon you and give you strength. Our prayers and love will be with all of you. Take care of each other.
Dear Prescott family... I am sorry for your loss...however I know my father will be happy to see him on the big golf course. I think of "Pres" as such a funny guy and his humor will definitely be an addition to the next journey. I will remember him with smiles. Love, Bonnie

Dear Doris,
Karen and I are sending you our sincere regrets at Bob's death.
Bob was a wonderful colleague and a great friend. The fifteen years we spent together at Central Office are some of my best memories of the Department. Bob was a real credit to the Department and always a good friend. Please know you have our prayer and thoughts.
Blessings to you.
John and Karen Wertz
