Fred graduated from Carlisle High School in 1954 and studied business at Penn State on a full baseball scholarship. He began his working career at Stoner Beverage in Harrisburg. He began his financial career at Commercial Credit Corporation as a loan officer and then worked at several local banks including Harrisburg National Bank, Commonwealth National Bank, Mellon Bank, Farmers Trust Company and finally, Orrstown Bank for a total of 43 years. He retired from Orrstown Bank in 2007.
