Robert F. Hair, Sr., 93, of Carlisle, died Monday, December 27, 2010 at Carlisle Regional Medical Center. He was born on Thursday, August 23, 1917, in Carlisle, a son of the late Arthur F. and Ellen E. (O'Brien) Hair. He was married to the late Mary Ann (Wilson) Hair, who died Aug. 20, 1991.

Bob was a 1936 graduate of Carlisle High School and a U. S. Navy veteran of WWII. He retired in 1980 from the Baltimore Life Insurance Co. after 42 years of service as an insurance agent in Carlisle. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Carlisle, Carlisle Elks Lodge 578, St. John's Lodge #260 F&AM and St. John's Royal Arch Chapter No. 171. Bob also played the drums for many years with Carlisle Band and was a leader and one of the founders of the 4-H Horse and Pony Club and Drill team.

He is survived by his son, Robert F. Hair, Jr. (and his wife, Carol) of Carlisle, a brother, Donald L. Hair of Mercersburg, a sister, Ann Miles of LaPlata, MD, four grandsons; Brian, Michael, Jeffrey and James Hair, four great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother, James L. Hair and two sisters; Miriam Cornman and Kathryn Cronican.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, December 31, 2010 in the Ewing Brothers Funeral Home, 630 S. Hanover St., Carlisle with Rev. Jon A. Black officiating. Burial will be in Westminster Cemetery, Carlisle. Viewing will be on Friday from 10 a.m. until time of services.
