Robert E. Franklin, 91, of Carlisle, passed away on Friday, July 10, 2020 at Thornwald Home, Carlisle. He was born on December 14, 1928 in Carlisle and was the son of the late Paul W. Franklin and Della M. (Williams) Stover and was married for 68 years to the late Isabel I. (Monismith) Franklin, who passed away on March 4, 2018.
Robert was a 1946 graduate of Carlisle High School. He earned Associate Degrees from Penn State-York and Temple University-Philadelphia. Robert was in the Army and Navy, where he was awarded a WWII Victory Medal and Army Occupation Medal-Japan. He worked for Master Manufacturers Inc, P.R. Hoffman Co., Reeves Hoffman Div., Hill Electronics Inc., Naval Supply Depot and then retired as self-employed Design Engineer & Draftsman. Robert was a long-time member of the Carlisle First Church of God, where he served on Council as President, Vice President, Treasurer and Secretary. Bob was a Sunday School Teacher and a member of the Servicemen's Class and Men's Bible Class. He was a Past President and Treasurer of the Carlisle Exchange Club, Past President of the Carlisle Industrial Management Club, was Explorer Post Advisor of Keystone Council Boy Scouts of America and was President and Team Manager for Carlisle Teener Baseball League. He was a past treasurer for Meals on Wheels, Carlisle.
He is survived by two sons; Stephen D. (Diane) Franklin of Mechanicsburg and David K. (Eileen) Franklin of Lansdale, two daughters; Carol D. (Cable Kinnard) Franklin of Landisburg and Cindy L. (Rick) Thomas of Carlisle, 9 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one son, Jeffrey P. Franklin who passed away in 2006, one grandson, Ryan Corkle who passed away in 2008.
A viewing will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 15, 2020 followed by funeral services at 11:00 a.m. in the Carlisle First Church of God, 705 Glendale St., Carlisle with Rev. Michael Poe officiating. Burial with military honors will be at 1:30 p.m. at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville. Ewing Brothers Funeral Home, Carlisle, is in charge of the arrangements.
