Obituary

Robert E. Drawbaugh, 68, of Newville, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday, March 31, 2014, at his home after a 2 year battle with brain cancer. He was born March 18, 1946, in Newville, a son of the late John P. and Martha (Murray) Drawbaugh.

A loving and devoted husband and father, he is survived by his wife of 47 years, Faye A. (Weary) Drawbaugh, whom he married on January 14, 1967, three sons; Timothy S. Drawbaugh, Matthew L. Drawbaugh and Wesley A. (Nicole) Drawbaugh, all of Newville and three grandsons, Parker S. Drawbaugh, Owen W. Drawbaugh and Mason J. Drawbaugh. In addition, he survived by two brothers; John P. Drawbaugh Jr. and William L. Drawbaugh, both of Newville, four sisters; Shirley Hippensteel, Betty Jane Stum, Esther (Nathan) Mooney, all of Carlisle and Vonnie Paulus of Newville.

Bob was a 1964 graduate of Big Spring High School and was class president. He received his Associate of Arts at Lee College, Cleveland Tennessee in 1966 and was a member of the Alpha Gamma Chi Fraternity. He received his Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education from Shepherd College, Shepherdstown West Virginia in 1970 and Master of Education from Shippensburg State College in 1973. He taught in the Cumberland Valley School District for 35 years teaching at Sporting Hill Elementary, Monroe Elementary, Cumberland Valley Middle School and finally Silver Spring Elementary before retiring in January 2005. Bob took pleasure in the simple things in life, loved the outdoors, hunting, farming and after retirement managing his forest. He had an amazing outlook on life, showed a great deal of respect for everyone around him, always positive and highly respected by his colleagues, students, church family and in the community. In his spare time he loved working on the genealogy of the Drawbaugh Family. He was a lifelong member and elder of the McClure's Gap Church of God where he taught Sunday school for many years, served as superintendent, church council president, treasurer and overseer of the church cemetery and instrumental in researching the history of his church. He was also a member of the Pennsylvania Forestry Association, Pennsylvania Stewardship Program and the Cumberland Woodland Association. In addition, he was a Cub Scout Leader for Troop 169 of Bloserville and a volunteer for the Upper Frankford Fire Company Annual Fairs.

A viewing will be held on Wednesday, April 2, 2014, from 5:30 to 8:00 p.m. in the Ewing Brothers Funeral Home, 630 S. Hanover St., Carlisle. Services to celebrate Bob's life will be held on Thursday at 1 p.m. at the McClure's Gap Church of God, 130 Church of God Rd., Newville, with Rev Robert Stauffer officiating with a viewing from 12:00 noon until time of the services. Burial will be in Upper Frankford Brick Church Cemetery, Newville. A time of fellowship and light meal will follow at the Upper Frankford Twp. Fire Co in Bloserville. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his memory to the McClure's Gap Church of God Cemetery Fund, 130 Church of God Rd., Newville, PA 17241 or to Cumberland Woodland Association, c/o Diane Cornman, 1362 Mountain Rd, Newburg, PA 17240 or to the National Brain Tumor Society, 55 Chapel St., Ste. 200, Newton, MA 02458.
