Robert L. Calaman, 78, of Carlisle, passed away with family by his side on Thursday, July 1, 2010, at the Cumberland Crossings Retirement Community, Carlisle. He was born on Saturday, February 20, 1932, in Carlisle, a son of the late Robert L. and Maude V. (Heberlig) Calaman.

Bob was a Korean War veteran and was honorably discharged from the US Army as a Sergeant in 1955. He retired from the Frog Switch Manufacturing Co. in Carlisle after 21 years of service as a machinist. After his retirement, Bob was a self-employed carpenter and owned and operated his own business for many years. He formerly attended the Trinity United Methodist Church in Walnut Bottom. He played rhythm guitar for over ten years with a former local country and western band called, "The Rainbow Valley Boys". Bob enjoyed fishing, hunting and being around his family and friends.

He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of nearly 55 years, Marcia A. (McKee) Calaman, a son, Barry L. Calaman of Harrisburg, two daughters; Leslie A. (and her husband, Michael R.) McBeth of Shippensburg and Pamela E. Varner (and her companion, Brad Souder) of Newville, four brothers; Marlin, Rodney and Larry Calaman all of Carlisle and G. Arthur Calaman of Boiling Springs, three sisters; Joyce Snyder of Groveton, TX, Cathy Junk of Newville and Wendy Fitting of Carlisle, four grandchildren; Jennifer Steffen, Gayle Christman, Travis Varner and Christopher McBeth, six great-grandchildren, two step great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Bob was also preceded in death by a brother, Donald E. Calaman.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, July 6, 2010, in the New Hope Church of God, 1250 Waggoners Gap Rd., Carlisle, with Pastor Dennis Killinger officiating. Viewing will be held on Monday from 6 - 8:00 p.m. in the Ewing Brothers Funeral Home, 630 S. Hanover St., Carlisle. The family will also receive friends for a time offellowship and refreshments immediately following the services on Tuesday at the church. Graveside services with military honors will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday at the Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville. Memorial contributions may be made to the New Hope Church ofGod.
