Robert was a US Army veteran of WWII, and was awarded the Purple Heart Medal and one Bronze Service Star for his participation in the Battle of Normandy. He retired from the former C.H. Masland & Sons/Lear Corporation, Carlisle after 40 years of service. Bob earned his G.E.D. from Carlisle High School. He was a member of First United Methodist Church, Carlisle and the Carlisle Fish & Game Association. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and was an avid Pittsburgh Pirates and Steelers fan.
He is survived by two sons; Ronald R. Bentz of Carlisle and Thomas E. (and his wife, Dorothy) Bentz of Newville, one daughter, Ruth Ann Gensler of Bethel Park, four grandchildren; Ronald E. Bentz, Elaine Bentz and Fraser and Adam Gensler, four great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Robert was predeceased by sister, Jane Madsen, son-in-law, Fraser Gensler and granddaughter, Leslie K. Bentz, who died May 19, 2006.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, January 25, 2013, at 2:00 p.m. in the Ewing Brothers Funeral Home, 630 S. Hanover St., Carlisle, with Pastor Susan Stewart officiating. Burial with military honors by Cumberland County Honor Guard will be in Mt. Zion Cemetery, Monroe Twp. A viewing will be on Friday from 1:00 p.m. until time of service at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to First United Methodist Church, 64 E. North St., Carlisle, PA 17013.
