Rita Holland Burtner, 96, of Carlisle, died Thursday, January 6, 2011 at her home. She was born on Friday, November 6, 1914, in Barnestown, a daughter of the late Wilson Krouse and Caroline A. (Geier) Krouse. Rita was also preceded in death by her first husband, George C. Holland, Sr., who died Aug. 4, 1966.

Rita retired from the Commonwealth of PA. She enjoyed reading, doing puzzles and watching old classic movies. She was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church, Carlisle.

She is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 37 years, Raymond H. Burtner, a son, George C. "Skip" Holland, Jr. (and wife, Susan) of Snellville, GA, two daughters; Sandra A. Orlando and Georgann L. Beatty both of Pensacola, FL, a step-daughter, Ann B. Travis (and husband, Harold) of Gardners, a brother, Richard Krouse of Harrisburg, nine grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Rita was preceded in death by three sisters, seven brothers and one granddaughter.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Monday, January 10, 2011 at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 85 Marsh Dr., Carlisle, with Chaplain Gregory J. D'Emma and Rev. Dwight D. Schlaline officiating. Burial will be in Resurrection Cemetery, Harrisburg. Viewing will be held from 6 - 7:00 p.m. on Sunday at Ewing Brothers Funeral Home, 630 S. Hanover St., Carlisle and visitation on Monday from 9:30 a.m. until time of the services at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to Asera Care, 75 S. Houcks Rd., Harrisburg, PA 17109.
