Richard Nelson Yorlets, 83, of Carlisle, went to be with theLord on Thursday, August 4, 2011, at the Carlisle Regional Medical Center. He was born on Wednesday, October 26, 1927, in Carlisle, a son of the late George S. and Rosie J. (Shughart) Yorlets, and was married to the late Martha G. (Rotz) Yorlets, who died March 26, 1985.
Richard served as a Sergeant in the US. Army during the Korean War with the 25thDivision, 35thRegiment and was awarded the Korean Service Medal with two Bronze Stars and the Combat Infantry Badge. While serving in the military, he was a communication technician. Richard was the proud owner and operator of Yorlets Mower and Saw since 1962, in Carlisle, and was formerly employed at Karper and Gates. He was a member of the First Church of God, Carlisle and a life member of the National Rifle Association. Richard was an avid hunter and enjoyed the outdoors.
He is survived by two sons; Gerry L. (and his wife, Cathy) Yorlets of Carlisle and Joseph L. (and his wife, Pam) Yorlets of Newville, one daughter, Lori A. (and her husband, John) Killinger of Carlisle, one sister, Velva Mentzer of Carlisle, one granddaughter, Jennifer (and her husband, Jared) Washburn of Etters, one great-grandson, James Washburn and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Richard is also survived by his loving and devoted companion of 19 years, Marlene Grove of New Kingstown. He was preceded in death by one sister, Martha Yorlets Raudabaugh.
Funeral Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, August 10, 2011, in the First Church of God, 705 Glendale St., Carlisle, with Rev. D. Alan Mathna officiating. Burial with military honors by Cumberland Valley Honor Guard will be in Cumberland Valley Memorial Gardens, Carlisle. Viewing will be on Tuesday from 6 - 8:00 p.m. in the Ewing Brothers Funeral Home, 630 S. Hanover St., Carlisle and on Wednesday from 1:00 p.m. until time of the services at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to his church.
