Obituary

Richard Sinclair White, Sr., 94, of Carlisle, passed away on Friday, November 20, 2020 at home.  He was born on April 17, 1926 in Millboro, Virginia and was a son of the late Wesley and Alma (Lewis) White.  He was married to the late Helen (Pridgen) White, who passed away on January 20, 2003.

Richard was a World War II Army veteran.  He worked for the Imperial Colliery Coal Company from 1947 to 1959.  He then moved to Carlisle in 1959 and began working for the Dauphin Deposit Bank and retired in 1977.  Richard was a member of Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church, Carlisle, where he was a former President of the Deacon Board and was the Assistant Superintendent of the Sunday School Class.  He was a former member of the School Board Advisory Committee, a former OIC Treasurer, President of the Carlisle Action Council and a former board member of the Carlisle YMCA.  Richard was a former member of the Bethel Baptist Church in Burnwell, West Virginia, where he was the Sunday School Superintendent, President of the District Sunday School Convention and a member of the Mt. Olivet Ministers and Deacons Union.

He is survived by daughters, Patricia Ewell of Carlisle and Angelyn Jackson of Harrisburg, son Benjamin (Cathy) White of Harrisburg, grandchildren; Andre (Getia) White, Sr. of Carlisle, C. Sidney Ewell of Carlisle, Todd Ewell of Carlisle, Dawn (Ali) Jones of Clarksville, TN, Evan (Shanean) White of Harrisburg and Alison White of Harrisburg, brother-in-law Thomas Murray, Sr. of Montgomery, WV, 20 great-grandchildren and 13 great-great-grandchildren. Richard was preceded in death by one son Richard White, Jr., one great-grandson Andre M. White, Jr., four brothers; Charles White, James White, Andrew Canada and Johnnie Mitchell and five sisters; Dorothy Younger, Corine Harper, Gladys Mathies, Helen Blackstock and Karolyn Murray.

A viewing will be from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on Friday, November 27, 2020 followed by private funeral services at 12:30 p.m. in the Ewing Brothers Funeral Home, 630 S. Hanover St, Carlisle with Pastor Sylvester Brown and Bishop Thomas Murray, Jr. officiating.  Burial will be in Cumberland Valley Memorial Gardens, Carlisle with military honors by Cumberland County Honor Guard.  Memorial contributions may be made to Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church, 409 N.
