Richard L. Hewitt, Sr., 78, of Carlisle, passed away on Monday, March 25, 2019 at his home.  He was born on November 11, 1940 in Coalport and was one of ten children to the late Charles and Agatha (Nevling) Hewitt.

Richard graduated in 1958 from the former B.C.I High School in Coalport and in 1969 earned his bachelors' degree in marketing from Rutgers University.  He was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps.  Rich retired after more than 30 years of service with the Federal Government including 16 years as the manager of the Social Security Office in Carlisle.  He enjoyed golfing and bird watching.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Irene C. (Shomo) Hewitt, two sons; Richard L. Hewitt, Jr. and James M. Hewitt both of Carlisle, one daughter, Susan M. Baird of Pittsburgh, two grandsons; William Robert Baird and Sean M. Baird, several brothers and sisters and many nieces and nephews.  He was predeceased by one grandson, Travis L. Hewitt who passed away on Dec. 2, 2011.

A visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 30, 2019 followed by a memorial service at 11:30 a.m. in the Ewing Brothers Funeral Home, 630 S. Hanover St., Carlisle with Pastor Ryan Brown officiating.  Burial will be private.
