Richard M. Braught, 94, of Carlisle, passed away on Saturday, January 14, 2017 in the Sarah A. Todd Memorial Home, Carlisle. He was born on December 27, 1922 in Carlisle, and was a son of the late Mervin and Blanche (Melister) Braught and was married to the late Julia (Zug) Braught, who died on May 21, 2008.
Richard worked many years as a diesel mechanic with Cleveland Brothers in Hershey. He was also a paid driver for 10 years with the former Empire Hook & Ladder Co. in Carlisle. He was a member of the St. John's Masonic Lodge and the Scottish Rite, Carlisle Special Fire Police and the Carlisle Fire & Rescue Services. Richard formerly attended St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church and the former First United Methodist Church, both of Carlisle.
He is survived by one daughter, Lois "Betsy" Lloyd and husband Robert of Newville, two sons; R. Michael Braught and wife, Margie of Port Royal and Thomas P. Braught and wife, Heidi of Dover, two grandchildren; Christina Payne and Daniel Braught, three great-grandchildren; Cassandra Payne, Lennon Braught and Miles Braught, one great-great-granddaughter, Sophia Payne, five step-grandchildren; Jenny Kennedy, Bobby Lloyd, Bill Lloyd, Melissa Leeds and Tracy Singer, ten step-great-grandchildren, three step-great-great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Donna L. Braught, one brother, Mervin L. Braught, two sisters; Jean Early and Lois Sowers.
A visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 21, 2017 followed by a memorial service at 11:00 a.m. in the Ewing Brothers Funeral Home, 630 S. Hanover St., Carlisle, with Rev. Jean Kuebler officiating. Burial will be private. There will be a time of fellowship immediately following the memorial service at the Carlisle Fire & Rescue Services, 177 Spring Road, Carlisle. Memorial contributions in Richard's name may be made to the Carlisle Fire & Rescue Services. www.Since1853.com.
