R. Wayne Jones, 84, of Carlisle, peacefully passed away with family by his side on Monday, May 17, 2010 in Carlisle Regional Medical Center. He was born on Friday, January 22, 1926, in Newville, a son of the late Norman F. and Margaret Ruth (Fickes) Jones.
Wayne and his wife owned and operated a dairy farm in North Dickinson Twp. for over 40 years. After his retirement from farming, Wayne worked in the maintenance department for the Dickinson School of Law, Carlisle. He was a longtime member of the Newville Assembly of God Church in Newville, where he taught Sunday School for many years. Wayne enjoyed singing. He and his family represented his church singing gospel songs on Sunday afternoons for WHYL and WIOO radio stations in Carlisle for 10 years.
He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 62 years, Jeanette E. (Lay) Jones, a daughter, Vonnie J. (and her husband, Dennis) Schmohl of Carlisle, four sons; Wayne E. of Carlisle, William A. (and his wife, Peggy) of Waynesboro, David L. (and his wife, Laura) of Landisburg and Daniel W. (and his wife, Diane) of Heidelberg, Germany, two brothers; Harold of Carlisle and Donald of Newville, three sisters; Louise Hosfelt and Betty Armolt both of Carlisle and Ruth Coldsmith of Newville and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Wayne was preceded in death by a son, Walter L. Jones, who died Dec. 22, 2009, three brothers; Ronald, Richard and Charles Jones and a sister, Jean Rhoades.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, May 21, 2010, in the Newville Assembly of God Church, 403 Oak Flat Rd., Newville with Rev. Jeffrey W. Kettering officiating. Burial will be in Westminster Memorial Gardens, Carlisle. Viewings will be held at the church on Thursday evening from 6 - 9:00 p.m. and on Friday from 1:00 p.m. until time of the service. Ewing Brothers Funeral Home, Carlisle, is in charge of arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to his church.
