Paul W. Sunday, 86, of Carlisle, died Wednesday, June 9, 2010, in Carlisle Regional Medical Center. He was born on Sunday, February 10, 1924, in Middlesex Township, Cumberland County, a son of the late Lenus W. and Mary (Waggoner) Sunday, and was married to the late Jean C. (Guise) Sunday, who died Nov. 23, 1995.
Paul graduated from Carlisle High School and served onboard a minesweeper in the U. S. Navy during WWII. He owned and operated for 40 years the former Stone House Inn on East High Street, Carlisle, and had also worked at the Mechanicsburg Naval Supply Depot. Paul was a member of the Carlisle Exchange Club, White Circle Club, American Legion Post 101 and a life member of the Carlisle Elks Lodge, Carlisle Fish & Game Assoc., V.F.W. Post 477 and the Disabled American Veterans. He was also a member of the National Rifle Assoc., the Naval MineWarFare Assoc. and the Old Town Run Mountain Lodge. Paul enjoyed fishing and hunting and spent many recent days fishing at the Boiling Springs Lake.
He is survived by his longtime companion, Rena Grissinger of Carlisle and her daughter, Mary Gruber of Charleston, SC and several nieces and nephews, including Barry Guise of Mt. Holly Springs and Sandy Loy of Carlisle. Paul was preceded in death by one sister, Jean C. Kline.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, June 14, 2010, in the Ewing Brothers Funeral Home, 630 S. Hanover St., Carlisle, with Rev. Richard Reese officiating. Burial will be in Westminster Memorial Gardens, Carlisle, with military honors provided by the Cumberland County Honor Guard. Viewing will be held on Monday from 9:30 a.m. until time of the service. The family will also receive friends immediately following the graveside service for a time of fellowship and refreshments at the Mt. Holly Springs Church of God. Memorials may be made to Mt.
