IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Paul B.
Dunkleberger
April 19, 1922 – May 10, 2020
Paul B. Dunkleberger went peacefully to be with the Lord in the early hours of Mother's Day, May 10, 2020 at the Carlisle Church of God Home. Paul was 98 years old and joins his wife of 63 years, Dottie who made her journey to heaven in 2011 and son Randy who passed away in 1996.
Paul is survived by his two daughters, Charmaine (H. Scott) Martin of Fairbanks, Alaska and Nettie Rhoderick of Mechanicsburg, daughter-in-law Pamela Dunkleberger of Carlisle, and sisters Mildred Morrison 93 and Ruby Eser age 88. He leaves behind four grandchildren: Matthew, Tim, Cara, and Nick and five great grandchildren. Paul was preceded in death by brothers Stanley, Mark, Kenneth, and Harvey Jr and sister Dorothy Wickard.
Dad was born in 1922 at home on the family farm near Boiling Springs. He attended Mechanicsburg High School and quit during ninth grade to go cultivate potatoes for Jake Hutton. He rode his bike all the way.
Paul was a well-respected member of the Churchtown Church of God, which provided immeasurable support for him, especially during the last few years. He so enjoyed visits from members of the congregation and appreciated receiving the weekly bulletins when he wasn't able to attend church services. Dad also loved going to lunch after church services on Sundays and the occasional breakfast. The Church even had a surprise birthday party for Paul when he turned 95!
As a lifelong farmer Paul and Dottie formerly owned the farm on Dunkleberger Road outside of Churchtown. Together the couple worked the dairy farm for over forty years. Plowing was his favorite. Paul was a proud member of the PA Farmers Association making sure his dues were paid well into his nineties. Paul loved the land and that love continued after they retired from farming and built a home on First St. near Boiling Springs. Paul loved cultivating his calla lilies, cherry blossom trees, red and white roses, dahlias, and zinnias. He so enjoyed riding his lawn mower round the yard up until age 96 much to his daughters' chagrin!!
Paul also enjoyed driving a school bus for Cumberland Valley School District for 22 years.
Special thanks to the caring staff at the Church of God Home where Paul has resided since summer of 2019 and much appreciation to the Homeland Hospice nurses. Nettie and I are so thankful we had the opportunity to spend time with our dad in his final days.
Private family viewing and burial will be held on Thursday, May 14, 2020. Burial will be in Cumberland Valley Memorial Gardens, Carlisle. A memorial service is being planned for a future date. Memorial contributions may be made to Churchtown Church of God, 351 Old Stonehouse Road South, Boiling Springs, PA 17007. www.EwingBrothers.com.
