Obituary

Othila "Sis" W. Grove, 85, of Carlisle, passed away on Saturday, July 8, 2023, at home with family by her side.  She was born on August 17, 1937, in Carlisle and was the daughter of the late David H. Webster and Alberta M. (Losch) Webster Gutshall.

Sis graduated from Carlisle High School in 1955.  She retired as the head bookkeeper with the former A & P Grocery Store in Carlisle after 25 years of service.  She also worked for the corner grocery store known as Lockwood Grocery Store on the corner of S. Pitt and W. South Streets in Carlisle.  She is a member of the Carlisle First Church of God and the AmVets Post 274 Ladies Auxiliary, Carlisle.  Sis and her husband distributed 1,000s of Care Boxes from their home to our Troops through AmVets Post 274 Ladies Auxiliary.  In 2013, several local television stations joined Sis and Jim at their home for a special look into their continuous longtime support for our troops.

She is survived by her husband of 68 years James L. Grove, one son Mark D. and his wife Lisa Grove of Boiling Springs, one grandson Matthew D. Grove, one great-granddaughter Stella Marie Grove and several nieces and nephews.  Sis was preceded in death by two brothers, David H. Webster, Jr. and Marlin Webster.

A viewing will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 15, 2023, followed by a funeral service at 11:00 a.m. at Carlisle First Church of God, 705 Glendale St, Carlisle, PA 17013, with Rev. Michael Poe and Pastor Greg Hench officiating.  Burial will be private in Cumberland Valley Memorial Gardens.  Memorial contributions may be made to her church.  Visit www.EwingBrothers.com to send condolences.
