Obituary

Naomi L. Richenderfer, 106, of Carlisle, passed away on November 10, 2025, at her home with
loving family by her side. She was born on November 10, 1919, in Palmerton, Carbon County,
PA and was the daughter of the late James E. Houser and Carrie (Shoemaker) Houser. Naomi
was the widow of James H. Richenderfer who passed away June 16, 1991.

She is survived by one daughter Nora Lee Taylor of Green Valley, AZ, one son James L.
Richenderfer of Carlisle, two granddaughters, Shana Zink of Albuquerque, NM and Stacie
Costello of Bozeman, MT, two great-granddaughters, Emma Hays of Denver, CO and Molly
Zink of Albuquerque, NM, one great-grandson J. T. Zink of Albuquerque, NM and numerous
cousins, nieces and nephews. Naomi was predeceased in death by two brothers, John Houser
and Monroe Houser, and a sister Nancy Houser.

Naomi graduated from Mahanoy Township High School in Mahanoy City, PA. She then
attended the Philadelphia School of Nursing. She spent many years as a church organist in Grier
City, PA. She was a private, in-home health care nurse and worked as a seamstress in a
designer dress factory for many years. Naomi shared her love of sewing with her extensive
family and friends in the form of custom quilts, embroidery and crochet blankets, sweaters and
anything else her granddaughters and great grandchildren requested. Her granddaughters fondly
remember arriving for summers with their grandparents and rushing to their bedroom to see the
new clothes she had sewn for them. Her great grandchildren loved receiving holiday care
packages of baked treats, each customized to their favorites. She was never found idle –
quilting, crocheting, baking, cooking, and gardening were among her favorite pastimes. As her
body failed her this past 6 months, her mind stayed incredibly sharp and she mostly enjoyed
visits from family and friends while still living in her own home.
