Runkle
October 20, 1940 – March 10, 2025
Nancy L. Runkle, 84, formerly of Shiremanstown, passed away on Monday, March 10, 2025, at Chapel Pointe at Carlisle. She was born on October 20, 1940, in Middleburg, and was a daughter of the late Clarion Bickhart and Faye (Bolig) Bickhart. Nancy was the widow of David C. Runkle, who passed away on November 22, 2023.
Nancy graduated from Middleburg High School in 1958. She spent 31 years working for the State Correctional Institute in Camp Hill as a purchasing agent. Nancy was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Shiremanstown where she served as a deacon, lector, greeter, nursery Sunday school teacher, and a Cub Scout den mother. She co-chaired the Alter Guild for 18 years, served as a chairperson of the Outreach & Nuture committee, was a past president of the WELCA, and was a past member of the church council and executive board. Nancy also served on the hospitality group and provided transportation for seniors to doctors appointments, shopping trips, and cooked meals for them. She absolutely loved hosting family and friends during holidays throughout the year.
Nancy is survived by two sons, David K. (wife Gretchen) Runkle of Carlisle and Mark A. (wife Lori) Runkle of Anchorage, Alaska, three grandchildren, Adam (wife Alicia) Runkle of Carlisle, Amanda (husband Joseph) Neff of Eagle River, Alaska and Kyle (fiancé Saylor) Runkle of Eagle River and one great-grandson William Runkle of Carlisle. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her sister Shirley Loss, and her brother Gary Bickhart.
A Celebration of Life is planned for Saturday April 26, 2025, in the St. John's Lutheran Church, 44 W. Main Street, Shiremanstown, PA 17011 with Pastor Sarah Keilholtz and Pastor Michael Seifert as the officiants. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. with a service at 11:00 a.m. The burial will follow in St. John's Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the church.
