Obituary

Nancy Goodyear Baish, 92, of Carlisle, passed away at her home on Tuesday, May 27, 2025, with family by her side.  She was born on February 11, 1933, in Carlisle and was a daughter of the late Norton Miller Goodyear and Margaret (Ker) Goodyear.  Nancy was the widow of R. Robert Baish who passed away in 1988.

Nancy was a life-time member of First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Carlisle where she was a former choir member.  At 10 years of age, Nancy and the family moved to a farm in West Pennsboro Twp.  After the early death of her father, she and the family raised turkeys and continued farming to make ends meet.  Nancy graduated from Carlisle High School in 1950.  She became employed at 17 years of age with the Pennsylvania Selective Service in Carlisle and earned the title of chief clerk and eventually became a district supervisor.  She retired from Selective Service after 23 years.  Nancy was a devoted homemaker, conservationist and continued managing the farm affectionately known as "Hobby Hollow Farm."  She always had a love for horses and later enjoyed caring for her son's ostriches.  As a child and teenager, she spent many summer days and nights at a family cabin at Laurel Lake.  She eventually purchased a cabin and named it "Laurel Lodge" to share her love of the Pine Grove area with her family.  She was very instrumental in helping her husband start his own business, "Bob Baish Glass and Body Shop," which once established allowed her to stay at home and raise their children and stay involved in all their activities.  After the passing of her husband, she helped her son Jim continue to operate Tiffany's Fireside Inn for several years.  Nancy was an integral part of establishing and running along with her family the annual "Bob Baish Memorial Golf Tournament" held every July at Cumberland Golf Club for the past 40 years.  Nancy was an excellent cook and took considerable pride in preparing the family holiday dinners even up to this past Easter celebration.

She is survived by one son Richard Goodyear Baish and his wife Amy of Carlisle, one daughter Jane Baish Ewing and her husband Steve of Carlisle, three grandchildren, Tiffany Baish Grace and her husband Andrew, Colton R. Ewing and Carrie J. Fearer and her husband Michael, two great-granddaughters, Brinley John and her husband Dalton and Melanie Fearer, one great-great-granddaughter Estella John and many nieces and nephews.  Nancy was preceded in death by one son James E. Baish, one great-grandson Brayden Bonsall, her twin infant brother Norton Goodyear, two sisters, infant Margaret Goodyear and Peggy Jane Jones.

A private funeral service will be held in the First Evangelical Lutheran Church, Carlisle with Rev. Richard Lorenz as the officiant.  The burial will be in Westminster Cemetery, Carlisle.  Memorial contributions in Nancy's name may be made to First Evangelical Lutheran Church, 21 South Bedford Street, Carlisle, PA 17013.  www.EwingBrothers.com.
