MSgt Kevin H. Markel, USAF-PA Air National Guard, 55, of Carlisle, died suddenly on Wednesday, June 12, 2013, at Carlisle Regional Medical Center. He was born June 30, 1957, in York and is a son of Eileen J. (Kirwan) Markel of Carlisle and the late Gene A. Markel.

Kevin was a 1975 graduate of Carlisle High School and earned a Bachelor's degree from Penn State University and a Master's degree from Duquesne University. Kevin has served for more than 30 years with the United States Air Force and the PA Air National Guard. He was a veteran of Operation Iraqi Freedom. Kevin was a member of the Tree of Life Church, Carlisle and was a life-long Penn State Football fan and was a senior advisor for the Civil Air Patrol.

In addition to his mother, Kevin is survived by his loving wife of 15 years, Nina M. (Spicher) Markel, three sons; Jason K. Markel of Harrisburg, Sean K. Markel and Conner N. Markel, both of Carlisle, one step-son, Jordan P. Grega of Carlisle, one brother, Barry E. Markel of Wexford, two granddaughters; Breyona L. Markel and Eilee K. Markel and two nieces; Kelly and Kimberly Markel.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, June 20, 2013, at 11 a.m. in the Ewing Brothers Funeral Home, 630 S. Hanover St., Carlisle, with Pastor David Herr officiating. Burial with full military honors will be on Thursday at 1:30 p.m. at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville. A viewing will held on Wednesday from 5 - 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home and on Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until time of services. Memorial contributions may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, P.O.
