Loving husband, father, grandfather and friend, Joseph Chaposky, 81, of Carlisle, went to be with the Lord on July 14, 2014, at home with loving family and friends by his side. He was born on Sept. 23, 1932, in Heckschersville, a son of the late George and Anna (Gripsha) Chaposky.

He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 59 years, Joyce M. (Brown) Chaposky, two sons; George J. (Debbi) Chaposky and Joseph C. (Charmaine) Chaposky, three daughters; Rosemarie (Clifford) Canant, Maryann (Kenneth) Yohn, and Judith A. (Charles) Bitner, three sisters; Maryann Manion, Dorothy (Steve) Swartchick, and Betty (Ken) Albitz, 21 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one brother, George J. Chaposky and one sister, Irene Muhall.

Joseph entered the Army following his graduation from St. Clair High School in 1950. He was a decorated veteran of the Korean and Vietnam wars and had served in Germany, as well as various key positions throughout the United States during his active military service. He earned many medals and commendations including; the Meritorious Service Medal, the Army Commendation Medal with three oak leaf clusters, the Good Conduct Medal with nine knots, the United Nations Korean Service Medal, American Defense Commemorative Medal, Vietnam Service and Campaign Medals, Civil Action Honor Medal, Army Presidential Unit Citation, Army Valor Unit Citation and the Vietnam Presidential Unit Citation.

After 27 years of military service, Joe retired from the United States Army as a Master Sergeant. He was then employed at Colt Plumbing, Inc of Mechanicsburg, and after retiring from Colt, he was employed by Auto Drive Used Cars and at Payless Auto Sales, both in Carlisle. He was a member of St. Ann Byzantine Catholic Church, Harrisburg, Carlisle Eagles 1299, the St. Clair American Legion Post 719, V.F.W. Post 477, the White Circle Club, both of Carlisle and the Carlisle Area Nascar Club. He enjoyed spending time with his family, tending to his garden and cheering for Penn. State. "Lucky Joe" loved the tickets at all the clubs, going to the casino and playing the lottery.

The Funeral Divine Liturgy will be celebrated on Tuesday, July 22, 2014, at 10 a.m. in the St. Ann Byzantine Catholic Church, 5408 Locust Lane, Harrisburg, with Father Michael Popson officiating. Burial will follow with military honors at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville. A viewing will be held from 6 - 8:00 p.m. on Monday at the Ewing Brothers Funeral Home, 630 S.
