Obituary

Monica was a 1946 graduate of Sault Ste. Marie High School and a 1949 graduate of St. Luke's Hospital School of Nursing in Marquette, MI. She was a Registered Nurse for 50 years and had worked at the former Carlisle Hospital and at the Camp Hill State Correctional Facility. Monica was a faithful member of the Mary Queen of Peace Parish at the Carlisle Barracks and also the St. Patrick Catholic Church in Carlisle.

She is survived by five sons; John "Mike" (wife, Janice) Sjoberg of Lexington, SC, Erik R. (wife, Cindy) Sjoberg of Carlisle, Kurt P. (wife, Judy) Sjoberg of Shippensburg,MSgt (Ret) Mark A. (wife, Lourdes) Sjoberg, USAF of Weston, FL and Kenneth L. (wife, Joann) Sjoberg of Carlisle, one daughter, Krystal J. (husband, Denzel) Murtorff of Carlisle, one sister, Jackie Flye of Federal Way, WA, 14 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Monica was predeceased by one son, Stephen W. Sjoberg and one brother, J. Donald Mackin.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, August 15, 2014, at 10 a.m. in the Mary Queen of Peace Parish at the USAWC Memorial Chapel, Carlisle Barracks. Chaplain (COL) Gregory J. D'Emma will officiate. Burial will be at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville. A viewing will be on Thursday from 6 - 8:00 p.m. in the Ewing Brothers Funeral Home, 630 S. Hanover Str., Carlisle. Memorial contributions may be made to the National Alliance on Mental Illness or to the National Parkinson Foundation.
