Obituary

Mildred E. Pearson, 87, of Carlisle, affectionately known as "Mim" or "Millie", passed to eternal life on Wednesday, January 29, 2014, at her home with loving family by her side. She was born on Jan. 23, 1927, in Carlisle, a daughter of the late Elijah and Fannie (Jennings) Jackson, and was the widow of SSgt. (Ret) Edgar B. Pearson, Sr., US Army, who died July 13, 1978.


Millie was a 1945 graduate of Carlisle High School and retired after 27 years of service with the PA Department of Transportation. She was a longtime member of West Street A. M. E. Zion Church, Carlisle.


She is survived by two daughters; Cynthia A. Rousseau of Griffin, GA and Edna M. Murphy of Temple Hills, MD, three sons; Edgar B. "Buddy" (wife, Vienna) Pearson, Jr. of Winston Salem, NC, Byron C. Pearson of Harrisburg and Keith D. (fiancé, Tamara Spraglin) Pearson of Carlisle, one sister, Alice Moten of Harrisburg, 11 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and friends. She was predeceased by sisters, Magnolia, Constance and Hannah and brothers; Gilbert, Lester, Joseph and Gordon Jackson.


Funeral services to celebrate Mildred's life will be held on Saturday, February 1, 2014, at 11 a.m. in the Ewing Brothers Funeral Home, 630 S. Hanover St., Carlisle, with Pastor Charles Smith officiating. Burial will follow in Cumberland Valley Memorial Gardens, Carlisle. A viewing will be from 10 a.m. until time of services on Saturday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to West Street A.M.E. Zion Church, 136 S. West St., Carlisle, PA 17013.
