Mildred G. George, 88, of Carlisle, died Tuesday, August 16, 2011, at Carlisle Regional Medical Center. She was born on Wednesday, June 27, 1923, in Perry County, a daughter of the late John H. and Mildred C. (Okeson) Barkley, and the widow of John J. George, Sr., who died Sept. 15, 1990.

Mildred retired from the former F. W. Woolworth's Department Store at the former M. J. Mall in Carlisle, where she was a cook in the restaurant. She formerly attended the Bethel Assembly of God, Carlisle, and, she enjoyed reading and walking.

She is survived by one son, John J., Jr. (and his wife, Bonnie) George of Gahanna, OH, three daughters; Joy A. Ott of Carlisle, Shelby J. George of Carlisle and Judy A. (and her husband, Gary) Nace of Port Royal, eight grandchildren and several great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Mildred was preceded in death by one brother, John Barkley, five sisters; Mary Emma Ritter, Ruth Sheriff, Edith Sheriff, Doris Wentzel and Betty Gibson and one great-grandson, Nicholas Nguyen

Private graveside services will be held at Westminster Memorial Gardens, Carlisle, with Pastor Josh Shaw officiating. Ewing Brothers Funeral Home, Carlisle, is in charge of arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to American Lung Assoc. of PA, 3001 Old Gettysburg Rd., Camp Hill, PA 17011.
