Mervin R. Sheriff, Jr., 83, of Carlisle, passed away on Sunday, November 18, 2012, at ManorCare Health Services, Carlisle. He was born on Thursday, April 4, 1929, in Lower Frankford Twp., a son of the late Mervin R. Sheriff and Evelyn L. (Calaman) Sheriff.

Mervin was a US Army veteran of the Korean War. He retired from the former C. H. Masland & Sons in Carlisle after 38 years of service. He was then employed by the Parks and Recreation Department in Middlesex Twp. for several years. Mervin was a member of Carlisle Eagles Aerie 1299 and the Williams Grove Steam Engine Association.

He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 56 years, Gayle Z. (Keck) Sheriff, one son, Kevin L. Sheriff (and his wife, Barbara) of Carlisle, one brother, Charles Sheriff of Carlisle, one sister, Frances Bailey of Carlisle, four step-brothers; Woodrow, John and Dale Sheriff, all of Carlisle and Harry Sheriff of Boiling Springs, two grandchildren; Kevin Sheriff, Jr. and Sarah Sheriff and several nieces and nephews. Mervin was preceded in death by two sisters; Bertha Grimes and Darlene Sheriff.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, November 23, 2012, at 1:30 p.m. in the Ewing Brothers Funeral Home, 630 S. Hanover St., Carlisle, with Rev. Daniel R. Mikesell officiating. Burial will be in LeTort Cemetery, Middlesex Twp. A viewing will be held on Friday from 12:00 noon until time of services at the funeral home.
