Maurice M. "Sully" Sullivan, 97, of Carlisle, passed away on Tuesday, February 15, 2011, at Cumberland Crossings Retirement Community, Carlisle. Sully was a resident of Carlisle since 1994 and a past resident of Mechanicsburg, Georgetown, Washington D.C. and Port Charlotte, FL. He was born on Tuesday, December 23, 1913, in Huntersmill, VA, the son of the late Maurice and Gladys R. (Tricket) Sullivan. He was married for 54 years to the late Wilma Faye (Creeden) Sullivan, who died Nov. 11, 1999.
Sully graduated from Western High School in Washington D.C. He was a US Navy veteran of WWII, and worked for various bureaus of the Department of Navy. He retired from the Mechanicsburg Naval Supply Depot in 1970, after more than 35 years of Federal Civil service. Sully was a former member of the Mechanicsburg and Carlisle V.F.W., American Legion and N.A.R.F.E.
He is survived by two sons; Michael B. Sullivan (and his wife, Connie) of Newville and Jerry J. Sullivan (and his wife, Rose) of Camp Hill, grandsons; John and Jason Sullivan, granddaughter, Megan Sullivan and two great-granddaughters. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Sharon F. Sullivan, who died in 1982.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, February 19, 2011, at Ewing Brothers Funeral Home, 630 S. Hanover St., Carlisle, with Rev. Keith Searfoss officiating. Burial with military honors by Cumberland County Honor Guard will be in Cumberland Valley Memorial Gardens, Carlisle. Viewing will be held on Saturday from 10 a.m. until time of services.
